For many years the management of C&K have recognised the need to
have a constant supply of apprentices under training. Each year a
new apprentice is appointed and enrolled in Chelmsford College on
day release. MD Richard Williams said, “Just before Xmas two very
experienced bench joiners retired from our firm. Between them they
took over 100 years of experience with them. It is crucial that we
employ apprentices at our company. They are our future. As we are
an all round joinery company a C&K apprentice has the benefit of a
very broad range of experience”.
It is also the stated aim to improve the calibre of the candidates
by selecting only the best qualified for the job.
In June this year the three apprentices (pictured receiving training
in the use of a moisture meter) have been entered into the annual
trade competition to be held at Killby & Gayford Joinery Ltd.
The competition, organised by the Worshipful Company
of Joiners & Ceillers draws apprentices from all over the country.
